The school's messenger was the Kurkolnische Academia Bonn (English: Academy of the Prince-balloter of Cologne) which was secured in 1777 by Maximilian Frederick of Konigsegg - Rothenfels , the ruler voter of Cologne. In the spirit of the Enlightenment the new establishment was nonsectarian. The establishment had schools for rationality, law, medication store and general studies. In 1784 Emperor Joseph II yielded the establishment the benefit to respect academic degrees changing the foundation into a school. The foundation was closed in 1798 after the left bank of the Rhine was included by France in the midst of the French Revolutionary Wars.

The Rhineland transformed into a bit of Prussia in 1815 as a result of the Congress of Vienna. Not long after the seizure of The Rhineland , On  April5- 1815 , Ruler frederick william III of Prussia ensured the establishment of an alternate school in the new Rhine region. At this moment there was no school in the Rhineland, as every one of the three universities that existed until the end of the eighteenth century were closed as a delayed consequence of the french profession. The Kurkalnische Academia bonn stood 1 0f these three schools. The other two were the Roman Catholic University of Cologne and the Protestant University of Duisburg.

The new Rhein was then settled on 18 October 1818 by Frederick William III. It was the sixth Prussian University, created after the universities in Greifswald,  Konigsberg,berlin breslau & halle. The new school was generally as granted between the two Christian segments. This was one of the reasons why Bonn, with its tradition of a nonsectarian school, was picked over Cologne and Duisburg. Beside a school of Roman Catholic reasoning and a school of Protestant religious logic, the school had schools for arrangement, law and rationale. From the start 35 educators and eight subordinate teachers were training in Bonn.
